Stair Lifts Solves Mobility Problem

One of the issues that senior deals with is mobility. Because of their age and sometimes health condition, they are not able to perform simple everyday tasks such as going up the stairs. The simple task of going up the stairs could be too cumbersome for them and could cause quite a discomfort. But because of stair lifts or also known as stair glide, many seniors are able to go up and down their house in comfort. Mobility problems not only for seniors but for those who are having difficulty in going up and down the stairs is not a problem anymore with chair lifts.

A stair lift is actually a motorized chair that is why it is also named as stair chair, stairs wheelchair or chair lifts. This stair chair is placed on a special rail on the wall which allows one to go up and down the stairs. This is also called a stair glide because it just glides smoothly up and down through the rail. Other names would be stairlifts or stairs lift and stairs wheelchair.

There are different types of stair way designs such as straight or curved. There are actually stair chairs which are specially designed depending on the stairway type. There are actually even outdoor stair lifts and there are even portable ones. Stair lifts may be electrical powered or battery operated. The chair lift doesn't consume much electricity and is cheaper than buying batteries. Battery-operated chair lifts however are still functional when there is a power outage.

We however have to keep in mind that one thing that needs to be prioritized more than the convenience is the safety. First and foremost, it is important to check the function of the chair lift before purchasing it. Family members and even the user should know where the cut-out switch is located in case a problem is detected and the stair lift needs to be stopped immediately.

There should be a backup power supply for the stair lift in case a power outage occurs. If it is battery operated, be sure to have extra batteries for it. Make sure that there are also available parts in case the stair lift would get damaged and would need to be repaired.

There are also features that chair lifts should have. One vital feature is pressure sensitivity for the stair lift to prevent collision that would get in the way. These are usually found on the footrest. Stairlift should also have sensors to again detect anything that would come in the way. This enables the chair lifts to stop when it detects an obstruction. There should be a lockable off or on switch which offers protection to prevent others especially children from activating or using the stair lift.

Safety restraints such as seatbelts are needed to prevent falls while using the stair lift. Adjustable footrests would be comfortable at the same time also provides safety and security. Foldable chairs would also be great so it can be folded when not in use so as not to go in the way for other people using the stairs.
